Editorial policy
How VotePulse researches, sources, labels, reviews and corrects the information on votepulse.co.ke.
VotePulse is an independent campaign technology and consultancy company, not the IEBC. We cite official sources for every official election fact, describe only product features that exist, label demo data, and correct errors when they are reported.
Five kinds of content, kept apart
Every public statement on this site belongs to one of these categories, and we do not blur them:
- Official election information
- Dates, rules, offices, electoral units and procedures. Always cited to the Constitution, Acts of Parliament, regulations, the Kenya Gazette, the IEBC or another official body, with the date we last checked it.
- VotePulse product functionality
- Descriptions of what the VotePulse software does. We describe only functionality that exists in the product.
- VotePulse consultancy service
- Services our consultancy team provides. Scope is agreed per engagement; we never promise electoral outcomes.
- Independent educational content
- Guides and explanations written by VotePulse, such as campaign planning advice. Clearly our own guidance, not official requirements.
- Demo / illustrative data
- Sample figures in screenshots, demos and examples. Always labelled as sample or illustrative data and never presented as real results.
Sources
For election information we rely on primary sources, in this order:
- The Constitution of Kenya and Acts of Parliament, as published by Kenya Law;
- regulations made under those Acts, and notices in the Kenya Gazette;
- the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC);
- Parliament, the Judiciary and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.
We summarise in our own words and link to the original; we do not reproduce large parts of official material. If we cannot verify a fact, we do not publish it. Where the law is published only as a dated consolidation, we say which version we used. The full list is on our sources page.
Verification and review
- Each source in our registry records when we last checked it against the original.
- Time-sensitive information — election dates, registration, candidate requirements, regulations and IEBC notices — is re-checked frequently, and our build process flags any source not checked for more than 180 days.
- General explanations, such as what a constituency is, are reviewed less often.
- Product pages are updated when VotePulse functionality changes.
- Pages show the date they were last updated. We do not change that date unless the content changed.
Authorship
Content is written and reviewed by the VotePulse team. We do not publish invented author profiles, testimonials, client names, statistics or research.
What we do not publish
- Automatically generated election news that has not been checked by a person against its source.
- Predictions presented as facts, or claims that any product or service determines who wins an election.
- Official results. Only the IEBC and its officers declare results.
Corrections
If you find an error, email info@votepulse.co.ke with the page address and, if you can, the official source. We will check it against the source and correct the page if it is wrong.
